Northern Lights Chapter (#0223), USAWOA 3 Feb 09
1. The Northern Lights USAWOA Chapter convened in the National Guard Armory RM# B203 at Ft. Richardson, AK. Chapter President Randy Templeton called the meeting to order.
2. A quorum was present with 15 members (3 officers) and three guest. The guest was given information on how to join our membership.
3. The meeting was called to order at 1206 hrs.
4. Invocation. West McCollum, our new chaplain, led us in pray before the meeting.
5. Pledge of Allegiance was completed.
6. The Minutes are located on the website and available for all members to read before the meeting. The Chapter Secretary Jeff Brehmer briefly discussed the November minutes and a motion was made by Clay Burton and seconded by Eric Richardson.
7. Treasurers Report for November is also present on the website but was briefly discussed by the Chapter President Randy Templeton since the Treasurer Ordia Brown was not present. A motion to accept the report was made by Ned Sparks and seconded by Dave Deming.
8. Committee Reports –
a. Membership Committee Chair Curtis Cain expressed more ideas about how to gain more membership. He handed out information that is posted to the website. Randy Templeton continues to look for more retirees in our location.
b. Asst VP Reserve/National Guard Affairs Jeff Arnold talked about future deployments in the National Guard.
c. Memorabilia Custodian – Michelle Sprosty was not present.
d. By-Laws review committee – Al Ostrowski was not present.
9. Unfinished Business –
a. Asst VP for Retired affairs – Chapter President Randy Templeton is still looking for a volunteer.
b. Community Support – Chapter President Randy Templeton is still looking for a volunteer. At this time no one volunteered. He reminded everybody that the chapter voted to support the following community organizations: Red Cross, Habitat for Humanity, VFW, and American Legion. The EXCOM will discuss more of the details and report back to the chapter by the February meeting.
c. Before Thanksgiving, the chapter donated $300.00 to the Post Chaplain’s Holiday food assistance program. Randy Templeton presented the check to the post chaplain. Pictures of the event is on the chapter website.
10. New Business –
a. Upcoming year - Building new membership. Randy Templeton talked to members about doubling our membership. We are looking for ideas for all chapter members on how this can be accomplished.
b. Sponsorship – We are looking for business rules for cooperate sponsorship.
11. Announcements. We received our 5 year membership banner and Best Retention Award for 2008.
12. Raffle. No raffle this month.
13. Adjournment – Chapter President requested a motion be made to adjourn the meeting. The motion was made by Marcia Harrison and seconded by Clay Burton. The meeting adjourned at 1224. The next meeting is scheduled for 12 Feb 09 in the National Guard Armory RM# B201 at Ft. Richardson, AK.
